3 More Ways to Use Your Career Center to Keep Members on Board With Your Association

A previous article on this blog looks at specific ways your online career center can provide member value through each stage of the career journey. That’s an important strategy for making members feel like they can’t afford not to stay with your association.

Yet there are still more ways to keep members around long term. Here are three other practical and effective approaches:

Offer personalized job and learning opportunities.
Research from Community Brands suggests that members expect a personalized experience with their association. Findings also show that members are most interested in targeted recommendations on continuing education and specific programs that align with their interests.

Here are a few ways to use your career center to provide the personalized content your members seek:

      • Personalized job recommendations – Recommend job opportunities to your members based on their prior job searches on your job board.
      • Intelligent job recommendations – Take it a step further by connecting your career center with your association management software (AMS) and your learning management system (LMS).By doing so, you can give members the opportunity to opt in to receive job recommendations based on their AMS member profile data, such as job title and location, giving them the ability to passively search for new career opportunities.

Also, members browsing your LMS course menu can be presented with actual, relevant job opportunities they would qualify for if they took suggested courses or learning paths through your organization. And, upon exiting courses or receiving certifications, learners can be presented with job opportunities they are now qualified for as a result of their new competencies or credentials

      • Intelligent course recommendations – Using your career center/LMS integration, you can allow members visiting your job board to see relevant jobs and popular, relevant, or recommended courses offered by your association that will help them become qualified for those jobs.

      Facilitate networking.
Networking via an online career center? You bet! For example, if you have social media integration on your career center site, allow job seekers who view a job in your job board to instantly see any LinkedIn connections they have who work at that company. This is a useful technology integration that can help members network and open doors to new opportunities.

      Communicate.
Of course, members can’t take advantage of all of the great benefits your career center has to offer if they don’t know about it. Email is a great way to reach members directly and continuously to keep them engaged year after year.
Here are some examples of emails to send:

      • Welcome emails – As you welcome and onboard new members, make sure they know about the resources and support your career center provides. Also, give them instructions on how to access the career center.
      • Job emails – Let members sign up to have jobs matched to their preferences and qualifications and sent directly to their inbox whenever those jobs are posted. Then, they can be the first to discover and apply for new opportunities.
      • What’s new emails – Be sure to let members know as you add new features to your career center. This is a good time to remind them of other features they might not have taken advantage of yet.

Using your career center is just one way to keep members around for years to come. YM Careers by Community Brands gives you the tools you need to create a robust online career center and put these approaches to work for your member retention strategy.
